Every funeral undertaker uses a coffin or casket lowering device as part of the family of funeral, undertaker, and cemetery equipment to lower the coffin or casket into the grave and thus finish the funeral service.

An automatic mechanical device known as a “lowering device” is used to lower a coffin or casket into a grave automatically. The coffin or casket is placed on the two straps of the lowering device, which has already been set up on an open grave. The device is made to keep the coffin or casket elevated over the grave until the braking mechanism is released, at which point the straps slowly unwind to lower the coffin or casket into the grave.
